Proposed changes to UK Parliament constituency boundaries could see Moray's boundary extended

PROPOSED changes to UK Parliament constituencies could see Moray’s constituency boundary extending to include Nairn.

The Boundary Commission for Scotland today published its revised proposals for UK Parliamentary constituencies in Scotland as part of its 2018 review. An eight-week public consultation exercise on the proposals has begun, finishing on 11 December.

The UK Parliament has decided to reduce the number of constituencies from 650 to 600. In Scotland this means that 59 constituencies will be reduced to 53. The suggested changes to Moray’s boundary remain unchanged from the Commission’s initial proposals.

Comments on the revised proposals can be made on the Commission’s consultation portal at www.bcs2018.org.uk, by email to bcs@scottishboundaries.gov.uk, or in writing to the Boundary Commission for Scotland, Thistle House, 91 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh EH12 5HD.

All comments should be submitted by 11 December 2017, after which the Commission will finalise its recommendations and submit these to the Secretary of State for Scotland, with the resulting constituencies to be used in the General Election in May 2020.
