CITY SIGHTSEEING OXFORD OPEN VISITOR INFORMATION POINT

Oxford Bus Company has opened a new Visitor Information Point to help welcome tourists and provide support to visitors.

In a timely boost to Oxford’s visitor economy City Sightseeing Oxford have unveiled the new hub that will see local people provide local information to visitors. The Visitor Information Point is in High Street in the heart of Oxford and provides a ‘one stop shop’ for visitors, and group or event organisers visiting the city.

Visitors will be able to obtain swift access to information including directions, bus routes, What’s On guides, event calendars, accommodation, and information and history sheets to key attractions. Bus tickets, books, maps, and tickets to visitor attractions can also be purchased. There is also a self-service machine for people to top up key cards.

The opening of the facility, by the open-top bus tour company, comes after the closure of the Visitor Information Centre in Broad Street. Oxford Bus Company is working with key stakeholders in the visitor economy to develop additional partnerships to expand its offering at the new Visitor Information Point.

Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director, said: “City Sightseeing Oxford’s new Visitor Information Point is an important strategic move to ensure we can continue to promote our City as a world-leading attraction. It enables us to continue to offer tourists and visitors a world class welcome to our city and is designed to help give our wider visitor economy further support at such a challenging time.”

Councillor Mary Clarkson, Cabinet Member for City Centre, Covered Market and Culture, said: “We are pleased that Oxford Bus Company is opening a new Visitor Information Point in High Street.

“This is a smart location: It is between the attractions of Christ Church and Magdalen, and it is further from the tourist drop-off point in St Giles’, which could draw tourists over a wider footprint within the city so more businesses can benefit. We will support Oxford Bus Company as much as we can to ensure this is a success.”

Hayley Beer-Gamage, Chief Executive of Experience Oxfordshire, commented: “We would like to commend Oxford Bus Company for picking up the baton and providing an important service for visitors to the city. The team at Experience Oxfordshire have been delighted to help with the development of the new visitor information point and know that City Sightseeing Oxford will do a great job of this.”

The City Sightseeing tour, owned by Oxford Bus Company, takes in the city’s famous sites, including the Oxford Castle, Christ Church College, Magdalen Bridge, Sheldonian Theatre, and Ashmolean Museum. The audio commentary is available in 14 languages, and a version for children, which includes quizzes, is also available.
