Oxford University Press launches Oxford Open Economics, the latest in the Oxford Open journal series

Oxford University Press has today announced the launch of Oxford Open Economics, the fifth title in its flagship Oxford Open journal series.

Oxford Open Economics is a fully open access journal publishing research covering all areas of economics, including theoretical, empirical, applied and policy-oriented work, and extending from macroeconomics through microeconomics and all relevant fields. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary work, which either utilizes economic methods and theories to a wider application or bridges across overlapping fields of work of relevance to economics.

The journal has been launched with a view to achieving fast and efficient peer-review, aiming to provide authors with a first decision within 8 weeks of submission. The journal aims to reduce repetition and redundancy in the review process, encouraging authors to share their decision letters and all reviews from articles previously submitted elsewhere (respecting confidentiality) to assist the editors and to make the review process as efficient as possible. Authors also have the option to choose a no-revision review. This means that they are guaranteed not to receive a decision requiring them to revise their work substantially. Under this option, submissions that require substantial revision will be rejected.

Professor Ugo Panizza, Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Switzerland and Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Open Economicssaid, ‘I am excited to be part of this new initiative. Our editorial team will strive to make Oxford Open Economics a premier outlet for high-quality economic research by guaranteeing a quick turnaround of papers, promoting frontier interdisciplinary research, and asking referees to concentrate on methodological rigor and sound results in order to avoid reports that focus on minutiae which, while requiring a large amount of time, have a small effect on the overall quality of published articles’.

The latest title in the Oxford Open series which launched in April 2020, Oxford Open Economics joins Oxford Open Climate Change, Oxford Open Energy, Oxford Open Immunology, and Oxford Open Materials Science. The series offers quality outlets for cutting edge, fully open access research in a wide range of subject areas. The series facilitates greater openness in all aspects of research dissemination and supports principles of open research, including open data.
