Fundraiser dies in round the world sailing event
Staff at Practical Action have been greatly saddened to hear of the death of long-term supporter Simon Speirs. Simon died in a tragic sailing accident this weekend, while competing in the Clipper Round the World Race.
Simon had supported Practical Action for more than 20 years and was raising money for us by taking on the challenge. Over the years he had raised and donated thousands of pounds, enabling us to help some of the poorest people in the world through life-changing innovative work.
Practical Action CEO Paul Smith Lomas said: “Simon’s incredible courage in taking on the Round the World Race was featured in the last edition of our Small World magazine. My thoughts are with his family at this time and I can only thank them for his support for some of the most disadvantaged people in the world over the years.”
