10 Sunderland runners team up to support Managing Director

A group of 10 runners from Sunderland-based firm, Identity Consult, are taking on the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run on Sunday 26 February in Newcastle after the company’s Managing Director had a stroke.

Staff from the cost management and project management consultancy were inspired to tackle the 5km and 10km course at Leazes Park, after Managing Director David Dent had a stroke just last month. David was on his way to a business meeting when he collapsed suddenly. He was taken to James Cook Hospital and after a week on a high dependency ward, David was transferred to North Tyneside General Hospital. He is now receiving physiotherapy at home and recovering well.

Alistair Henderson, Senior Consultant at Identity Consult, is one of the runners taking part. He said: “David’s stroke happened completely out of the blue and made us realise that a stroke can happen to anyone at any time. We’re so pleased he’s making a good recovery and now we want to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association to help others affected by stoke to get the support they need.

“People from all across the company are getting their trainers on for the run, including directors and consultants. Some of us are keen runners while others are complete beginners, but we’re all training together and ready to take on the course!”

Dave Shearer, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With around 1.2 million people across the UK living with the devastating impact of stroke it is vital that we have people like our Resolution Runners to raise funds and help us conquer stroke. We’re thrilled the team from Identity Consult is taking part. We’re looking forward to cheering them on alongside our other participants as they make their way through the park.

“At least half of strokes could be prevented if people made simple lifestyle changes, such as keeping blood pressure under control and exercising more. The money raised will help the charity fund vital research, support people affected and prevent stroke.”
