Evesham stroke support group calls out for new members

An Evesham stroke group is calling out for new members to join them and help provide local stroke survivors with vital support.

Evesham Stroke Support Group was created in partnership with the Stroke Association, and is run by volunteers, to help people in the area rebuild their lives a life after stroke. The group meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 10am - 12pm at Wallace House Community Centre on Oat Street in Evesham.

The group provides an opportunity for stroke survivors to meet other people affected by stroke and share their experiences. Members can also access information about stroke with details of local services as well as enjoy games and quizzes, music and exercise sessions.

Claire Sandalls recently took over as chairperson of the group. She said: “We currently have around 20 members who come along to socialise with other people who have been affected by stroke. It’s really helpful for stroke survivors to chat to others who have had similar experiences and know they’re not alone. We’d love to see more stroke survivors and carers from around the area come along and join us at the group.”

Jodie Drust, Community Development and Partnership Officer from the Stroke Association said: “It’s hugely important that stroke survivors feel supported in their local community as they are on the road to recovery. Local groups like Evesham Stroke Support Group offer invaluable social support. We really appreciate the important role of our clubs and groups and the vital work they do in their local communities.”
