Joanne is taking part in Resolution run for Nan and daughter

Joanne Way, from Weston Super Mare, will be taking part in The Stroke Association’s Resolution Run in Ashton Court on 8th March 2015. Joanne will be running for her daughter Lexi (3 yrs and 8mths old) who had a stroke in the womb and Nanny who sadly passed away after a major stroke.

The Resolution run is one of over 20 Runs taking place across the UK. Runners can choose to run 5,10 or 15k round a park circuit.Joanne will be running 5k and wants to encourage others to join her. Joanne said “I have seen first-hand the massive impact that stroke can have on two people in my life; both the very young and old. I am running to give something back to the charity that is close to my heart.”

Joanne’s Nan had a major stroke in 2004, which left her paralysed and unable to speak. Sadly she passed away seven years after from pneumonia; a few days after Joanne found out that the baby she was carrying had a stroke in her womb. After she was born they discovered that Lexi has weakness down her left side, is visually impaired and suffers from Epilepsy.

Joanne and her Grandpa are great supporters of the Stroke Association having raised money through a sponsored walk before.Joanne adds “My nanny used to go to the Weston active stroke group and my grampy, as Vice Chairman of the group, still continues to do a lot of work for them 4 years after my nanny’s death.”

Claire Haines for the Stroke Association added: “We are so pleased that Joanne has signed up to join us at our Resolution Run in Bristol. She is such an inspirational person and her experience shows that stroke can affect anyone. There are still places left to run so we hope lots more people will join us.”

The money raised through the Resolution runs will help the charity fund vital research, support people affected and prevent stroke. Entry fee is just £12.50. For more information about entering or volunteering, visit www.stroke.org.uk/resolution oremail resolution@stroke.org.uk

All runners receive a free t-shirt and medal. Running vests are available as well for just £2.50 more.
