Suffolk school children get their crafting caps on for the Stroke Association
More than 170 school children at Woolpit Community Primary School, in Bury St Edmunds have taken part in a fundraising project, raising over £447 for the Stroke Association.
School children at the primary school made their very own collection boxes to share with their family and friends, to raise vital funds for the charity.
Head teacher Shaun Holland said, “We gave the children an afternoon to create and decorate their own collection box. It was a fantastic opportunity for the whole school to come together for such a great cause. The children really loved getting behind such a creative project to raise money for the Stroke Association. We most definitely had some show-stoppers!”
Louise Everett, mother of two children at Woolpit Community Primary School said, “My children loved the idea of creating their own collection boxes at school for the Stroke Association. Within no time they had feathers, glitter and pipe cleaners at the ready to make their boxes. It was so nice to know that the fun they were having was helping to raise funds for an amazing charity.”
Sara Betsworth, Regional Head of Operations at the Stroke Association, said, “With around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK, it's hugely important that we raise awareness of this devastating condition. As well as supporting the project, we also took part in an assembly at Woolpit Community Primary School, which was the perfect opportunity to tell the pupils more about the risks and early warning signs of stroke.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the pupils at Woolpit Community Primary School for taking on this project. The money will go a long way in helping people who are living with the effects of stroke, as well as their families and carers.”
The student’s boxes will be on view to the general public from the 22 December - 8 January at Stowmarket Library.
