Press release -
Photographers v Prostate Cancer
Richard Dunkley, a London based portrait and lifestyle photographer, is holding a unique art auction in aid of men’s health charity, Prostate Cancer UK.
On Thursday, 3rd July ‘Photographers v Prostate Cancer’ will be held at London based venue, Michael Hoppen Gallery. The art auction will see an array of prints donated by some of Britain’s most well known photographers such as Lord Snowdon, Don McCullin, John Swannell, Rankin and Tim Walker.
Photographers v Prostate Cancer will be an evening of fine art and a showcase of some of the best British photographers. Prostate Cancer UK ambassador and art collector, Lord Jeffery Archer will be hosting the auction evening. The 27 photographic prints that are being donated for the auction, can be seen here.
Richard was inspired to hold the art auction for Prostate Cancer UK after he was diagnosed with the disease in November 2012. He comments: “I decided to hold a fundraising event in support of Prostate Cancer UK because when I was receiving treatment for my prostate cancer I came across the charities marketing campaign which inspired me to want to hold my own awareness initiative using the contacts that I had in the photography industry.”
“Michael Hoppen, which is a leading venue for fine art collectible photography, kindly agreed to hold the auction at their beautiful premises. The concept of the art exhibition and auction became even more real and I have had such great responses from some really fantastic photographers, something I had not anticipated.”
“I firmly believe that awareness is the key to raising the profile of the disease and helping charities, like Prostate Cancer UK continue to support men living with prostate cancer in the UK. I am looking forward to the event and I am delighted to be raising much needed funds to help the fight against prostate cancer.”
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We’re thrilled that Richard is hosting the Photographers v Prostate Cancer auction to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK. It is with support like this that we can help provide dedicated support and information to men and their families affected by prostate cancer and fund research to help fight the disease.”
“With over 40,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer each year in the UK, and one man dying every hour, it is our aim to help more men survive the disease and enjoy a better quality of life. We anticipate that the auction will be a huge success.”
Michael Hoppen of Michael Hoppen Gallery said: 'When Richard asked us to host the silent auction for Prostate Cancer UK, we were delighted to support such a great cause.
The idea is to generate awareness and revenue and it's great to see that so many photographers and other professionals wanted to be involved.”

About Prostate Cancer UK:
Prostate Cancer UK fights to help more men survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men and provide vital information. We find answers by funding research into causes and treatments. And we lead change, raising the profile of the disease and improving care. We believe that men deserve better.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the UK. Over 40,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. Every hour 1 man dies from prostate cancer. One in four Black men will develop prostate cancer at some point in their lives.
Men United – The Facts:
Men United v Prostate Cancer is our call for men to join together in a movement against the common enemy of prostate cancer. The aim is to build a united front of men against this disease. We want to get the message out about one of the UK’s biggest man killers, support men affected by it, and intensify the search for more reliable tests and treatments for the future.
The core audience is men over 45 who urgently need to know about this disease, and to do something about it. Men United is not exclusively for men. This is a movement for men, but women will be critical supporters and activists within it. But, the core idea is that men are very consciously facing their health and banding together to right a wrong.
About Michael Hoppen Gallary:
The Michael Hoppen Gallery is one of only a handful in London that specialises exclusively in photography, dealing in all periods from early rare works of 1850 right up to the present day. Having opened in 1992, the gallery has become a cornerstone of the London photo scene both from a commercial and academic point of view. We have watched the medium evolve over the past two decades and continue to seek to serve as a platform for what photography was and is.
The gallery directly represents some of the world’s greatest names and estates including important photographers of the Modern period such as Bill Brandt, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Fernand Fonssagrives, Guy Bourdin, Dr. Harold Edgerton and Shomei Tomatsu. We also represent some of the leading names in contemporary photography with a particular expertise in Japanese photography: Myako Ishiuchi, Nobuyoshi Araki, Tim Walker, Desiree Dolron, Sarah Moon, Robert Doisneau, Lucien Hervé, Daido Moriyama. The gallery collaborates with other major galleries and museums and exhibits at key art fairs worldwide.
The gallery runs a limited edition publishing house: ‘Guiding Light’. We source key and rare items for our clients and our framing department assists with presentation and conservation of photographic art.
About Storm Model Management:
Storm Model Management 2014. Storm Model Management is one of the UK’s top model agencies, representing some of the most influential names in fashion. These include Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Cindy Crawford, Behati Prinsloo, Lily Cole, Alek Wek, Jourdan Dunn, Karolina Kurkova, Poppy Delevingne and Eva Herzigova.
Storm was launched by Sarah Doukas in 1987. After working as a top agent at IMG, Sarah was inspired to set up her own agency and secured Richard Branson as her business partner. She revolutionized the traditional modelling industry with her dynamic and creative approach. Storm was the first UK model agency to book and market models directly with international clients, resulting in foreign agencies entrusting their top models in her care. This opened up opportunities for models to an international audience, dramatically raising their profiles.
Over the years Sarah has earned a reputation as the legendary “spotter” and as the model agent with an eye for diversity and talent who could turn a young hopeful into a star. 1988 will be remembered as the year Sarah changed the history of fashion when she spotted Kate Moss at a New York airport. This success was to be repeated throughout the years with Storm consistently recognizing the potential in new faces.
Sarah has run the agency since the early days with her brother Simon Chambers, also a Director, and her daughter Noelle Doukas, who heads up the Womens Division. Together they have expanded the agency to include licensing and branding opportunities for Storm clients. Storm Special Bookings was also created ten years ago to run alongside the model agency, to develop prestigious creative and commercial opportunities for clients outside of the fashion industry.
