Word Weaver’s welcome would-be wordsmiths

The Word Weaver group is looking to entice new members who are interested in clever and creative wordplay.

The creative writing group meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month to discuss and practise the arts of poetry and prose. The next meeting will be on Monday 9 June.

The group’s new leader, Eileen Earnshaw, has a wealth of experience in literature and in running workshops. She hopes that the group can continue to develop writing skills and get even more people into creative writing.

Eileen said:

“Anyone is welcome to come to learn more about creative writing and test out their skills, no matter their writing experience. The members are very friendly and there is an encouraging and respectful atmosphere, perfect for creative writing!”

They are looking for new members who wish to develop their creative writing skills. The sessions will focus on various topics and themes such as ‘plots and timelines’ and ‘local research methods’.

Councillor Neil Emmott, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Neighbourhoods, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for people who have an interest in creative writing to go for a session and see what more they can learn. The group has been set up by Rochdale Borough Libraries to support, assist and encourage the writers in the borough; Rochdale borough has a history of producing great creative writers including Steve Coogan and John Collier.”

The group has also set up a blog so members can upload their own work and comment on other people’s work in the group, so if you miss a session you can still be involved in the group discussions.

Word Weavers meet in room G11 at Rochdale Central Library, in the council’s multi-award winning Number One Riverside. The fortnightly sessions are from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
