John Russell named Volunteer of the Year in Third Sector Excellence Awards

Reading resident John Russell won the prestigious award for Volunteer of the Year, following decades of supporting Stamma, The British Stammering Association.

The judges said, “John's passion and dedication are evident here. Such dedication needs recognition and demonstrates the impact that one person can have on such an important cause.”

Jane Powell, Stamma Chief executive said, "These awards are a lovely recognition and vindication of the whole organisation who have driven and sustained it for over 40 years. John has been an amazing supporter of the organisation, raising thousands of pounds for the charity over the years.

Research suggests that 8% of people will stammer at some point in their lives with up to 3% of UK adults describing themselves as currently having a stammer. The British Stammering Association seeks to create a society where people who stammer can fulfill their potential and enjoy respect and consideration. The charity offers support, information, advice and resources to those who stammer and their families as well as educators, employers and speech and language therapists.
