Malaysian citizen Richard Lau has been detained in the UAE for almost a year for receiving wages. He has been detained pending investigation, with his detention regularly being renewed as the Ras Al Khaimah authorities have not been able to find or produce evidence to charge him with any crime. He is paradoxically being detained precisely because there is not evidence to justify his detention.

Detained in Dubai applauded Scotland’s decision today to refuse extradition of their client Garrett Black to the United Arab Emirates, following the organisation’s involvement in the case. Jamie has 2 open cases against him in Dubai. The 1st was for brushing past a man and the second was a rude gesture + drinking alcohol. 1st is not heard yet. The 2nd was in absentia. He was sentenced to 30 days prison for the rude gesture, a 2000 AED fine (£400) + deportation. His lawyers have appealed. Jamie denies the rude gesture and indecent behaviour but admits drinking alcohol.

Interpol is allowing itself to be illegally used as a debt collection agency by UAE banks. The UAE is a generous contributor to Interpol's coffers, having pledged $54 million in 2016. Brits who miss a credit card or loan payment and leave the country have their debt falsely classified as fraud by the UAE so they can list the defaulter with Interpol for the purposes of extradition.
