The Year of the English Country Garden

2016 has been dedicated The Year of The English Country Garden which coincides with Lancelot “Capability” Brown’s 300th anniversary of his birthday in August, who we have to thank for initial landscaping at Stoke Park which was later updated by Humphry Repton.

We are lucky enough to be surrounded by glorious parkland and beautifully landscaped gardens, next time you visit Stoke Park it is definitely worth walking The Heritage Walk which will lead you into the glorious Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens – no matter what time of year it is, it always looks beautiful.

The Heritage Walk guides you along paths, passing famous monuments, historical points of interest, amazing architectural structures and of course, constantly surrounded by excellent examples of English Country Gardens and Capability Brown’s landscaping.

You can get more information from Reception about the walk but make sure you spend time exploring the Memorial Gardens and keep an eye out for the points of interest:

  • Gray’s Monument
  • St Giles Church (Stoke Poges)
  • The Manor House
  • The Coke Monument (at the end of the driving range)
  • Lady Juliana Penn’s Urn

It’s a fantastic route, suitable for all ages and what better time than now, in The Year of the English Country Garden? Whether you’re a Member or a Hotel Resident, it’s a great way to explore Stoke Park’s surroundings and history!
