Barrow-in-Furness stroke survivor officially opens Vision Express store

A stroke survivor officially opened the Vision Express store on Dalton Road, Barrow-in-Furness on Saturday.

David Jones, from Barrow, is pictured with (from left to right) Emma Lewis, Debbie Higgins, Helen Whatley, Lisa Kassell, Sam Cooke from the Stroke Association, Claire McCormick, Karen Bamber, and Louise Stephens, unveiling the store’s re-furbished eye health facilities.

David, aged 72, was representing the Stroke Association, which is a charity partner of Vision Express. A stroke in 2013 affected David’s mobility and vision and he is now unable to drive because of how much his sight has been affected.

Commenting on the opening, David said: “I was honoured to attend the Barrow-in-Furness Vision Express store opening. A stroke can have a huge impact on someone’s life, and that’s why I was so grateful to be part of the day and help raise awareness of the condition. The Vision Express team was very keen to support the work of the Stroke Association.”

The opening marks the store becoming part of the Vision Express family, following the company’s acquisition of Conlons Opticians, which brings the total number of stores nationwide to over 390. The former Conlons store has traded at Dalton Road, in Barrow-in-Furness, for 38 years.

Vision Express Regional Manager, Anthony Rees, says: "We’d like to thank David for taking the time to help us officially open our new store and would also like to thank all our customers for their patience while the store has been closed during refurbishment. We hope they are as thrilled as we are with the comfort and first class facilities of our revised store.

"Our Barrow team has a collective 146 years of experience and we have many loyal customers including ‘Hairy Biker’ Dave Myers. We look forward to continuing to provide a first class eye care service to the people of Barrow."
