Dobbies clocks up the miles for the Stroke Association

Members of staff at Dobbies in Southport took on a six-hour spinathon in store on Monday 29 August, and raised £286 for the Stroke Association in the process.

The latest fundraising challenge brings the store’s ongoing fundraising total for the charity to more than £4,170. Eight members of staff cycled up to an hour each on a static bike throughout the day.

Dobbies Southport chose the Stroke Association as their Local Charity Partner after a number of employees had personal experience with strokes. Employee Sue Payne’s mother–in-law, Lillie, had a stroke two years ago. Lillie is now in a residential home in Southport and relies on carers and her family for support.

Laura McMullin, Regional Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With the help of people like Sue and the team at Dobbies, the Stroke Association can continue to support stroke survivors and their families across the North West. We’re extremely grateful to the team for all their support; together we can conquer stroke.”

Zoe Stanmore, Community Champion at Dobbies Southport, said: “We’re thrilled to have raised so much money for the Stroke Association with our spinathon. The charity means a lot to many of us at Dobbies Southport, and we will continue to raise as much as we can for the duration of our partnership. We’re very grateful to everyone who donated and to personal trainer Neil Anders, based at Victoria Leisure, who kindly provided us with the bike.”
