Gateshead Millenium Bridge turns purple to launch Action on Stroke Month

The award-winning Gateshead Millenium Bridge and Baltic Square lit up in purple on Friday 01 May, to celebrate the launch of Action on Stroke Month.

Staff members from the Stroke Association also hit the square dressed in purple, as during the month of May the charity aims to Make May Purple and raise awareness of the impact of stroke, while also raising vital funds.

In addition, restaurants and bars along the Quayside also showed their support for Action on Stroke Month, with staff wearing Stroke Association purple t-shirts, serving purple cocktails and collecting donations.

Janet Price, Community and Events Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “May 2015 will see communities come together to help the Stroke Association conquer stroke. From baking purple cupcakes to wearing purple socks and everything in between, we’re calling on everyone to join in the fun and go purple for stroke.

“Money raised during the month will help ensure we can be there for the thousands of stroke survivors and their families and carers who need support, as they come to terms with a life after stroke.”
