Knitting Nans raise vital funds to help rebuild lives after stroke

A group of ‘Knitting Nans’ who meet weekly at Rochdale Leisure Centre have presented the Stroke Association with a cheque for £150, after selling their handmade goods to raise vital funds for the charity.

The group of ladies knit a variety of items including hats, scarves, toys, socks. Following sales over Christmas, they chose to donate the funds to the Stroke Association, which holds Moving Forward After Stroke sessions each week at the centre.

The sessions support local stroke survivors with exercise to help reduce the risk of a second stroke, and helps people to overcome challenges they face following the physical impact of their stroke.

Helen Latham, Regional Fundraising Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Knitting Nans for all their fundraising efforts. The money raised will go a long way in helping to rebuild lives after stroke in Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton.”

The Stroke Association provides a Life After Stroke Service in Rochdale, in partnership with Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group. For more information about stroke, ring the Helpline on 0303 30 33 100 or visit www.stroke.org.uk.
