Local Stroke Nurse undertakes 10K for Good Cause

Demi-lee Mccullough, 20 from Paisley, is running a 10K, to raise funds for the Stroke Association on 29 April.

Demi-lee knows only too well the devastating impact a stroke can have on the person affected, and their family and friends. Demi-lee is a bank nurse at The Royal Alexandra hospital in Paisley. She says:

“What I notice most about the effects of a person’s stroke, is how much it takes away from the person who has it. I see how resilient people have to be to recover. Families of loved ones need support too. I’ve seen many elderly husbands and wives coming in to see their other halves, sitting with them for hours as they eagerly wait for their husband or wife to be discharged home. But it takes far too long for this to happen.

“I am running for the Stroke Association, because I want to raise awareness of stroke, and call for more support for the families of stroke survivors.”

Andrea Watt, Relationship Fundraiser in Scotland said:

“We’re delighted to see Demi-lee’s passion towards improving stroke care. We also believe support for family members of stroke survivors is vital. The funds Demi-lee raises will go towards preventing stroke and helping people rebuild their lives after stroke.”

Demi-lee plans to run from her home in Paisley to Pollok.

She continued:

“I’ve never run a 10K before, so am really excited. I will be thinking of all the stroke survivors I’ve cared for with each stride along the way.”
