London residents cycle to fundraising success for the Stroke Association

Around 350 people from across London cycled on Sunday 30 September, raising more than £40,000 for the Stroke Association at the charity’s Escape the City Bike Ride.

A sea of purple fundraisers took to Chiswick to complete a 30, 60 or 80 mile route course from the city along Surrey's quiet, scenic country lanes, all while helping to conquer stroke.

Emma Evans, Events Manager at the Stroke Association, said: “A stroke can happen to anyone at any age, at any time and it turns lives upside down. It’s the fourth biggest killer in the in the UK and a leading cause of disability.

“We’re extremely grateful to everyone who took part – it was a fantastic turn out and a great day for everyone involved. The money raised will fund vital research and support for stroke survivors, as well as help to prevent people from having a stroke.”

At least half of strokes could be prevented if people made simple lifestyle changes, such as keeping blood pressure under control and exercising more.

The Stroke Association is the UK’s leading stroke charity which campaigns to improve stroke care; supports people to make the best recovery they can; and funds ground-breaking research to change the lives of people affected by stroke.
