Loughborough woman runs in memory of her Nan

Rachel Faulkner from Loughborough is set to tackle the Ikano Robin Hood Half Marathon on Sunday 27 September 2015 to raise vital funds for the Stroke Association.

Rachel, 27, was inspired to run the half marathon in memory of her Nan, Helen Faulkner, after she died from a stroke in March 2014.

Rachel said: “It means so much to me and my family to not only raise money, but also awareness about stroke. I chose to raise funds for the Stroke Association because of the incredible work the charity does to support people affected by this devastating condition. My Nan is my inspiration to make sure that I finish the half marathon. When it comes to the big day, I know she will be in my mind, spurring me on.”

Louise Knight, Community and Events fundraising Manager in the East Midlands, said: “We’ll be cheering Rachel on every step of the way as she takes on this challenge in memory of her Nan. With around 152,000 strokes a year in the UK – that’s around one every three and a half minutes – it’s vital that we have people like Rachel who can raise funds for people affected by stroke.”
