Press release -

New Stroke group is launched in Dover.

26th May 2015

New Stroke group is launched in Dover.

A new Stroke Association Voluntary group has been launched in Dover. The group held its official launch in the Ark in Noah’s Ark road on the 7th May 2015.Stroke survivor Peter Groombridge from Shepherdswell decided to open a voluntary group with support from the Stroke Association after a stroke club in the town was closed down due to the sad death of the club’s Vice Chairperson Jean Henderson.

In 2007 Peter was working as an engineer within the south east when he had a couple of ‘funny turns,’ which he now realises were a TIA and a warning sign. On a sunny April day that year he pulled over whilst feeling strange and called his wife. He tried to speak but the words came out wrong and his wife knew to call an ambulance. As Peter could not communicate the paramedics had to work out where he was from the two phones he was carrying. Peter had suffered a severe bleed, was hospitalised for over 3 months and undertook extensive rehab.

Eight years after his stroke Peter is determined to help other stroke survivors in their recovery. The new Stroke group will meet twice a month on a Thursday, 10.30 to 12.30, at the Ark, Noahs Ark road in Dover. The group will offer stroke survivors the chance to meet up, share their experiences and take part in some fun activities.

The launch of the new group took place during Action of stroke month; an awareness month organised by the Stroke Association every May.New members and volunteers celebrated with purple cupcakes, a big table of Action on Stroke Month goodies and a raffle.

All stroke survivors and their family are welcome to join the group, to find out more please email Peter at info@dover-stroke-club.co.uk or visit www.dover-stroke-club.co.uk.
