Norfolk resident takes on the Bupa Great North Run to raise funds for the Stroke Association

Sea Palling resident Myles Crowder is raring to go as he makes his final preparations to take on the Bupa Great North Run on Sunday 7 September to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

Myles, 48, is taking on the 13.1 mile challenge in memory of his mother Jean who had a stroke at the age of 83. The run falls on what would have been his mothers birthday weekend.

Myles, who has lost just under four stone for the challenge, added: “When mum had her stroke, I called the NHS helpline after she appeared to be confused over some basic tasks. There was little or no apparent palsy to the side of her face and initially she seemed to only be confused. After seeing a doctor who suspected that mum may have had a mini stroke, the hospital later found that mum had had a significant stroke, but that the symptoms were uncommon and hard to spot. After mum had her stroke, the advice posted on the Stroke Association’s website was enormously helpful and no doubt attributed to her getting an initially great response and recovery.”

Janet Price , Regional Fundraiser at the Stroke Association said: “There are 152,000 strokes every year in the UK – that’s one every three and a half minutes. As a charity, we rely on the support of people like Myles, so we can continue to make a real difference to the lives of stroke survivors and their families. We’ll be cheering Myles on as he makes her way to the finish line.”

It’s not too late to sponsor Myles. Visit www.justgiving.com/Myles-GNR to make donation, or you can text RFBR66 followed by your donation amount to 70070.
