Northwich netball players set to score for the Stroke Association

Michelle Timm, 51 from Northwich, is encouraging local residents to help raise vital funds for the Stroke Association, in memory of her husband Julian Timm.

Netball coach Michelle has organised the Julian Timm Memorial Mixed Netball Tournament, which will take place on Saturday 21 November at Rudheath Leisure Centre, Northwich.

Six teams made up of parents and coaches of the Northwich Sapphires Netball Club junior teams will compete, seeing the roles reversed and the adults taking to the court instead of the children. The tournament will be followed by a hot supper at Moss Farm Sports Bar where guests can enjoy a hot pot or curry supper and music.

Michelle has organised the events in memory of her husband Julian, a stroke survivor and volunteer who actively supported the Stroke Association. Julian sadly passed away in August this year at the age of 52.

Michelle said: “My daughter Laura and I both play and coach netball at Northwich Sapphires Netball Club. The club has been a great source of support to both of us. We’re hoping our love of netball will help us through the difficult months ahead – knowing that every penny raised will help a cause so close to Julian’s heart has really spurred us on. We are planning to make the tournament an annual event so would love to see lots of people from the local community come along and show their support.”

Louise Lawless, Community and Events Fundraising Manager, said: “Julian was a fantastic ambassador for the Stroke Association and did so much to raise awareness of stroke and the charity’s work. The netball tournament is a wonderful way to pay tribute to his memory and provides a great opportunity for people to help raise vital funds, while bringing the community together. The money raised will go a long way in helping to support people in the North West who have been affected by stroke, as well as their families and carers.”

The tournament will take place from 1-5pm. Tickets to enter the tournament are £15 per player. The ticket includes a hot supper at Moss Farm Sports Bar from 7.30pm. Evening tickets cost £7.50 per head. To book your team’s place or for further enquiries email: michelle.timm@hotmail.co.uk. You can also donate by visiting www.justgiving.com/julian-timm
