Petersfield celebrates its range of wonderful activities at Community Fair

The Stroke Association’s Stroke Support Group in Petersfield is hosting a Community Fair with demonstrations from an eclectic mix of local artists, musicians, hobby groups and many more activities. The free, public event takes place at the Community Centre from 10am to 2pm Saturday 2 August 2014.

Entertainment includes live music, scrabble, guides to searching your family history, painting, ballet, photography, bridge, embroidery, stamp collections, a book sale, a raffle, tea, coffee and cake. Information about local support available for people who have been affected by stroke will be on offer as well as advice on stroke prevention. Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy the Petersfield Stroke Support Group’s award winning garden outside the Community Centre which has just won silver in the Petersfield in Bloom awards.

The event will celebrate the role of the Petersfield Community Centre as a hub of activity used by around 70 local groups a month and around 1,000 people a week including the Stroke Association Stroke Support Group, luncheon clubs, baby groups, fitness classes, beekeepers, music groups and the many other interest groups exhibiting on the day.

Mandy Souter from the charity the Stroke Association says; “Most people know that Petersfield is one of the most vibrant communities but they’d be hard pushed to know just how much variety we have. Come along to enjoy the fruits of and find out more about the range of activities available to us.”

The charity the Stroke Association estimates that there are over 4,000 people in Hampshire have a stroke each year and around 36,000 people living with the effects of stroke.

Mandy Souter continued: “Through all the support of our volunteers, service users and staff, we make life after stroke in Petersfield a reality. Don’t miss this once in a million chance to come together and be inspired by the recoveries people can make, learn more about how to prevent stroke and enjoy the wonderful activities we have in our community for people of all ages and stages.”
