Preston netball players help to Make May Purple for stroke

A local student is helping to help Make May Purple this Action on Stroke Month 2015, by organising a purple netball tournament to raise funds for the Stroke Association.

Held on Catterall Village Hall’s Parish Fields on Saturday 16 May at 11am, the tournament will see local netball players compete against each other while wearing creative purple fancy dress.

There will also be a summer fete alongside the competition, with games and a raffle, as well as stalls selling cakes and treats.

Isobel Eglin, 19 from Fulwood, has organised the event with the support of her family and friends to raise money for the Stroke Association.

She said: “This has been the first fundraising event I’ve organised and it’s taken a lot of planning, but luckily I’ve had support from my friends and family. We have players taking part from Preston College as well as other local netball players. While they’re competing to win the tournament, they’ll also be competing to have the most purple fancy dress!

“I’d love for residents in Preston to come along to show their support and help us raise money for the Stroke Association, a very worthwhile cause.”

Louise Lawless, Community and Events Fundraising Manager, said: Action on Stroke Month has returned in 2015 with a bang! We’re thrilled people like Isobel are helping to Make May Purple for Stroke. Action on Stroke Month’s success is down to the people and communities who help make it happen. From wearing purple socks to organising a purple day in the office, you could also show your support for the Stroke Association in May, because together we can conquer stroke.’

May 2015 will see communities come together to help the Stroke Association conquer stroke. From baking purple cupcakes to painting your toenails purple and everything in between, the charity is calling on people in the region to Make May Purple for Stroke.
