Stars join the call to Make May Purple for the Stroke Association

Sir Michael Gambon has lent his support to the Stroke Association’s annual awareness-raising month: Make May Purple. During the month of May, the charity is raising awareness of the impact of stroke, and sharing information and advice on how to help prevent the condition.

The Hollywood actor, who recent portrayed Winston Churchill’s recovery from stroke in the ITV drama ‘Churchill’s Secret,’ said: “Since taking on the role of stroke survivor Winston Churchill, I've become all too aware of the merciless way a stroke can change someone's life in an instant. There are many millions of stroke survivors and carers, and the support you receive from those around you is so vital. That's why I am supporting the Stroke Association's Make May Purple campaign. Together we can conquer stroke.”

Sir Michael Gambon joins an array of celebrities who are showing their support for the charity during May. Actor Rudolph Walker will attend the lighting up of the London Eye in purple, and comedian Les Dennis will be helping to illuminate Blackpool Tower in purple to mark the start of the month. Les Dennis said: “Stroke is such a cruel condition, and every step on the road to recovery is something to celebrate. That’s why I’m helping to Make May Purple for the Stroke Association and supporting the team as they light Blackpool Tower purple to kick start the month.

“I’d encourage everyone to take action in their local community for Make May Purple. Whether you chose to hold a purple-themed bake sale, or dress in purple for the day, it’s a fantastic way to help spread the word and stroke and raise funds for charity.”

Actors Samantha Morton, Lindsay Duncan and Nicholas Lyndurst have also pledged their support throughout the month.Samantha Morton said: “I know from personal experience that stroke can be devastating. The Stroke Association does such important work to prevent stroke and to change the lives of stroke survivors. That's why I am supporting Make May Purple and I hope as many people as possible join me in supporting this important campaign.”
