Stroke Association calls on Glastonbury Festival goers to get their hands dirty

The Stroke Association is encouraging music revellers at this year’s Glastonbury Festival to get their hands dirty to help conquer stroke.

The charity, which has been named Glastonbury Festival’s Health Charity of the year, will be asking festival goers to leave a purple hand print and message on a wall of pledges as part of its latest campaign: A New Era for Stroke. The charity will also be collecting signatures for a petition urging the Government to commit to a new national stroke strategy.

Stroke Association staff will be on hand in the Green Futures field throughout the five-day festival to provide information and advice about preventing a stroke.

Dominic Brand, Director of Marketing and External Affairs at the Stroke Association, said: “Glastonbury is one of the UK’s most iconic music festivals, and we’re thrilled to be a part of the 2016 line-up. Thousands of people will be attending the event, and we hope that as many people as possible stop by to find out about reducing their risk of stroke. Many don’t realise that strokes can happen to younger people, so that’s why we’ll be on hand to remind people that simple lifestyle changes could be a lifesaver.

“We’ll also be collecting signatures for our A New Era for Stroke petition, which is calling on the Government to commit to a new National Stroke Strategy. There are over 1.2 million people in the UK living with the effects of stroke, yet many people still aren’t getting the support they need for their recovery. Stroke is closer than most people think. By adding your name to our petition and leaving a purple handprint, you’ll be showing your support for them and countless other stroke survivors across the country.”
