Stroke Association receives vital funding from NFU Mutual to support stroke survivors in the East of England
The Stroke Association has received generous funding from NFU Mutual to help expand its Stroke Information Programme in the East of England – a vital service supporting people to rebuild their lives after stroke.
The Stroke Association has received a donation of £7,899 from NFU Mutual’s Agency Giving Fund. The charity was nominated by NFU Mutual’s Hertford and North Herts agency office, which chose the Stroke Association as a charity partner after one of their colleagues sadly passed away from a stroke.
The Stroke Association was invited to put forward a local project that the funding could support. The charity nominated its online Stroke Information Programme, which is currently running in the community. The programme provides stroke survivors and their families with vital information and guidance on life after stroke, connecting them with healthcare professionals, peer support, and local services.
In 2023–2024, there were an estimated 146,630 stroke survivors living in the East of England. The need for different ways to access information, guidance and support about life after stroke has never been greater. With NFU Mutual’s funding, the Stroke Association will be able to reach more people affected by stroke across the region, offering them hope and a stronger chance at recovery.
Louise Hornagold, Engagement Lead at the Stroke Association in the East of England said: “We are so grateful to NFU Mutual for this generous funding. Stroke strikes in an instant and changes lives forever - but with the right support, recovery is possible. This funding will help us grow our Stroke Information Programme in the East of England, giving survivors and their families a place to come together, hear from healthcare professionals, and find strength in shared experience. For many survivors and their families, the programme provides not only practical guidance, but also a much-needed opportunity to meet others who share similar experiences. Thanks to NFU Mutual, we can ensure more people affected by stroke get the support they need to rebuild their lives.”
Julie Williams, Agency Development Manager at NFU Mutual, said: “We are proud to support the Stroke Association’s vital work. We were devastated by the loss of our friend and colleague, Amy Adams, who was in her early forties when she passed, and it really brought home how this is something which can affect anyone, at any stage, and without warning. Amy was brilliant at her job and well-liked by clients and colleagues alike, and we still feel the loss now.
Supporting the Stroke Association gives us a practical way to keep Amy’s memory alive, and this programme in particular, makes a real difference to stroke survivors and their families - giving them access to the information, guidance, and a community they need during some of the toughest times in their lives.
