Stroke survivors send Christmas messages to others in Acute Stroke Unit

Stroke survivors from the Wokingham Stroke Support Group have created Christmas decorations with messages for new stroke survivors to encourage them in their fight to recovery.  Messages of ‘Keep smiling’, ‘Keep going’ and ‘Don’t give up’ are included in the decorations which have been used to decorate the tree in the Acute Stroke unit at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

The stroke group which meets at the Bradbury Centre on the second and fourth Thursday each month, created the decorations for the Stroke Association tree which was on show in the Festival of Trees on last weekend. With the help of their coordinator they have arranged for them to be moved to give encouragement and strength to patients in the Acute Stroke unit and their families

Peggy Johns, Information Advice & Support Coordinator for Wokingham, adds “Each year the stroke survivors work hard on their decorations and this year they wanted to show others that there is Life after stroke. A stroke happens in an instant but its effects can last a lifetime our group wanted to encourage those going through the early stages of recovery. The staff and patients I met today loved the tree.”
