Support for stroke survivors in North Devon grows with launch of new support service

The Stroke Association has launched a new service for local support to help more people affected by stroke in North Devon.

In partnership with North Devon District Hospital, the Stroke Association have opened the doors to a new stroke café which will take place twice a month on the Stroke Unit of the hospital.

Sonya Webb, Support Coordinator for the Stroke Association in North Devon said: “We’re really excited to be launching our new stroke café in North Devon District Hospital. Stroke has a massive and sudden impact. People’s lives are changed forever - not just for the stroke survivor, but for their family and friends as well. Having somewhere to go and someone to speak to so soon after having a stroke, is vital for many stroke survivors and their loved ones.

“When a stroke strikes, often people don’t know what to expect, what is happening to them or what to do next. We’ll be on the stroke ward twice a month offering emotional support, practical advice and information.

“The stroke café will be a much-needed place for local stroke survivors and their families. Stroke Association services, such as this new café, can really make a difference to people’s lives and recoveries. It’s hugely important that stroke survivors feel supported in their local community throughout their road to recovery.”
