Windsor High School and Sixth Form fundraising boosts the Stroke Association
Students from Windsor High School, Halesowen, have raised more than £630 for the Stroke Association, after a student recently lost his father to a stroke.
Joseph Eulogio,16, is a prefect and year 11 student at Windsor High School. In November 2015, he was at home with his father, Reden, and younger brother when his dad collapsed after a huge stroke. Despite Joseph’s remarkable efforts at calling his mum and an ambulance, as well as looking after his dad and reassuring his younger brother, his dad sadly passed away.
Joseph said: “My dad was a healthy and active man, we both enjoyed sport and played basketball together. Until stroke affected my family in such a devastating way, I didn’t really know anything about it.”
Each year, the different Houses at Windsor High School fundraise for a charity of their choice. Students in Joseph’s House, York, were inspired to show their support for Joseph and his family, and raise vital funds for the Stroke Association in his father’s memory.
Students sold bracelets and had a cake sale throughout their chosen week from Monday 06 March - Friday 10 March, as well as promoting the FAST message to help people recognise the signs of stroke. Joseph and eight other students, as well as Head of York, Mr Andy Perks and his daughter Grace, also kick started the fundraising by taking part in the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run at Hagley Hall on Sunday 05 March.
In addition, Joseph shared his experience to help others and stood up along with other students in his school assembly, when he talked about stroke, symptoms and the devastating effects of the condition.
Mr Andy Perks, Teacher at Windsor High School and Head of York, said: “Mr Andy Perks, Teacher at Windsor High School and Head of York, said: “I am extremely proud of the students in our house who have given up their time and energy to support a fellow student who has been an inspiration in leading himself courageously through a very difficult time. We are delighted to have been able to raise a considerable amount of money to support a very important charity, after we have learnt stroke has affected many students and staff in our community.”
Claire Pell, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Stroke Association, said: “With more than 100,000 strokes in the UK each year, it’s vital that we have people like Joseph and his fellow students to help raise funds. We’re incredibly grateful to Joseph, Mr Perks and students at York House for choosing to support the Stroke Association; the money raised will go a long way in helping to support people who are living with the effects of stroke, and their families and carers, as well as help to prevent people from having a stroke.”
