June 8th, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom: Red Rover Interactive, an independent development studio featuring industry veterans from Funcom and Bohemia Interactive, has announced its largest open playtest leading into Steam Next Fest happening later this month. Announced on Saturday via a brand new trailer during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, the playtest is open to all players seeking a thrilling PvP adventure in a desolate, post-apocalyptic world.

Enginefall is a player-driven crafting PvP shooter set aboard always-moving colossal trains roaming a devastated, post-apocalyptic world. Players become Freerailers, nomadic raiders that have to scheme, loot and fight their way through resource-filled Titan Trains. From the toxic gas filled underbelly of Third Class to the luxurious utopian gardens of First Class, players have to fight all the way to the front to face and topple the Conductor to become the rulers of these industrial behemoths.

The open playtest marks Enginefall’s biggest and longest public test yet, introducing a host of new gameplay systems for players to experience ahead of launch. These include:

  • Upgrading, customising and fortifying Dagger Shuttles, personal trains and strategic hubs that each player can modify to their liking as they plan their next big raid.

  • The introduction of Dagger vs Dagger battles, where players can deploy their custom-built personal trains into emergent, cross-train encounters against other players in chaotic PvP fun.

  • Addition of hostile NPCs that actively hunt players as they raid Titan Trains, massive industrial beasts filled to the brim with resources and loot, adding additional pressure to an already thrilling PvP experience.

  • A revamped onboarding experience featuring a dedicated tutorial train that will give players a chance to get hands on with crafting, progression and base-building before diving into a Titan Train raid.

The Enginefall public playtest is now live and lasts until the end of Steam Next Fest until June 22nd. Access to the playtest is available to all players free of charge, with entry granted through a simple sign-up request on the game's Steam storefront.

Enginefall will be releasing in 2026 on Steam. For more information, visit enginefall.com or follow the game on Discord, TikTok, Instagram, and X (Twitter) to stay up to speed with the latest updates. You can find the official Enginefall press kit here.
