Press release —
PHASMOPHOBIA LAUNCHES SEASONAL CRIMSON EYE EVENT AS GAME HITS 30 MILLION SALES
It’s all treats and no tricks as the genre-defining co-op horror title hits a major milestone alongside the return of its annual Halloween event
SOUTHAMPTON, UK – October 8th, 2026 – Today, Kinetic Games announces that Phasmophobia has surpassed 30 million sales since its Early Access release across PC and console as its annual in-game Halloween event, Crimson Eye, launches for another year of terrifying hunts and seasonal rewards.
Since launching into Early Access in 2020, Phasmophobia has grown from a solo project into a global horror phenomenon, with Kinetic Games continuing to expand and evolve the game with new content and seasonal events. Until November 1st, Crimson Eye brings ghost hunters spectral rewards, spooktacular frights and bone-chilling challenges, with rotating event maps featuring blood moon weather for even more terrifying hunts. Ghosts have increased speed and sanity drains quicker, but brave players can earn higher rewards in return.
The fan-favourite fright has now been running for three years, with the blood moon first appearing in Phasmophobia in 2024. Crimson Eye returns this year as the team celebrates another major milestone: 30 million sales worldwide.
Starting as a solo project, Phasmophobia has grown into a global co-op horror phenomenon across PC and console. Throughout the game’s journey in Early Access, the Kinetic Games team has worked to expand haunted locations, introduce new ghost types and improve player character models, all shaped closely by community feedback.
This year alone, two major Quality of Life updates brought vast improvements to player characters, customisation and evidence collection, while introducing further Restricted maps for fast-paced ghost-hunting.
“So much has changed since I started making Phasmophobia on my own at my parents' house,” commented Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games and Game Director for Phasmophobia. “My initial goal was to sell 1000 units in the first year, so it’s hard to believe we’re celebrating 30 million. I’m so grateful to everyone who has played, and to the team who have worked alongside me on it. There is plenty more to come as we head towards 1.0.”
Phasmophobia’s success has also enabled Kinetic Games to expand its ambitions beyond the game itself, with the studio launching Kinetic Publishing earlier this year to champion independent development teams. Drawing on Daniel Knight’s journey from solo developer to global success, the publishing division gives indie devs the support and resources to make incredible games without compromising their creative vision. The first Kinetic Publishing Showcase in August revealed its first slate of titles, with its first game, starship job simulator Contact Protocol, launching in Spring 2027.
Looking ahead, the Kinetic Games team is gearing up for Phasmophobia’s highly anticipated 1.0 release, slated for the second half of 2027. Beginning next year, the studio will share spooky sneak peeks into the update’s development, including major overhauls to ghost design and overall gameplay.
The Crimson Eye event is available now in Phasmophobia, including:
