#VolunteersWeek - Meet Adam, from RBS
Adam has been volunteering for us since 2013 and plays a huge role at our special events. We’d like to say a thank you to Adam for all his support. We managed to catch up with him and ask a few questions!
Why did you start volunteering?
I started volunteering originally as I needed to do two volunteering days as part of my individual targets for the year - RBS like their staff to volunteer with different charities. I starting doing team events at local parks planting flowers, putting up fences etc. and really enjoy the concept of charity work. What stopped me volunteering earlier is the fact I didn’t know how to go about taking up volunteering and I felt quite nervous, apprehensive and shy as I didn’t know anyone (at the start). When I started on the charities team, my Relationship Manager encouraged me to get more involved in charity work, so I volunteered for The Sick Children's Trust Cricket Event for the first time in 2013 and never looked back.
Why do you think it’s important to volunteer?
Personally for me it’s the social aspect, I like talking to different people, and it helps me in my role as a Relationship Support Manager as I can sometimes have confidence issues, but I also believe that it’s really important to give back to the local community whenever you can. Rather than giving money it feels much more rewarding to give your time.
What’s been your favourite moment while volunteering?
The individuals that I have met along the way, whether they are staff, other volunteers, families, everyone has a story to tell.
