Thule Group acquires Freeload bike racks as part of the Thule Pack ’n Pedal™ launch

The Thule Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of the rights for the much praised Freeload bike racks. This acquisition is part of the launch of the new Thule Pack ’n Pedal™ range that follows a long Thule tradition of designing pioneering solutions for an active lifestyle. The Freeload bike rack system is in line with the Thule focus on ease of use, safety and quality.

“We have focused on putting together a smart system of products with different parts for different needs. We were looking for a bike rack system that could match the stringent requirements we have at Thule, with smart solutions for an active lifestyle. Freeload had developed some very smart solutions that we felt fit our needs”, says Magnus Welander, Thule Group CEO.

The New Zealand-designed racks offered a great solution that can be used both in the front and the back, and fit virtually every type of bike on the market. The rack system, which the two companies jointly developed further will be part of the Thule Pack ‘n Pedal™ range launched in connection to the EuroBike fair, in Friedrichshafen – Germany, this year, and opens up for further inventions in the outdoor category.

Freeload, a company based in Dunedin, New Zealand, was founded in 2007 as a design and innovation company, aiming to design and commercialize the invention of the first fully adjustable, self-securing bicycle rack. The products responded to the load-carrying needs of cyclists that wanted to enhance the recreation and transportation experience of modern cycling.

After the acquisition of the rights to the bicycle rack by Thule Group Freeload has continued to work with further developments on and around the bike In collaboration with Thule Group.

The Thule Pack ‘n Pedal™ range will be available in selected independent bike shops in major cities in Europe, North and South America from Q4, 2012. A wider launch in more stores and an extended range with more products will follow in 2013.
