TNT Express helps bid for charity Christmas chart-topper
TNT Express, the UK's leading business-to-business delivery company, hopes for chart-topping success as it plays its part in delivering what could be the Christmas No1 single... all in the name of charity.
"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" - the charity single produced in aid of the Hillsborough Disaster families - is released on Monday, December 17th and TNT is delivering the first 160,000 copies of the CD free of charge into major music outlets throughout the UK mainland, including HMV, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and on-line retailer Amazon.
TNT is a major link in the process of distributing music, film and home entertainment, safely and efficiently delivering CDs, DVDs and computer games and consoles to high street stores, supermarkets and independent retailers to ensure a reliable supply of the latest releases to shoppers.
The charity single, which features pop stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Melanie C, Paloma Faith, Holly Johnson, Beverley Knight, Richard Hawley and Gerry Mardsen, will raise money to cover the legal costs of families of the Liverpool supporters killed in the Hillsborough football ground tragedy in 1989. Comedian John Bishop and Liverpool football legends Kenny Dalglish and Alan Hansen also feature on the single.
It is already tipped to become a Christmas hit with bookmakers expecting it to beat the X-Factor winner James Arthur to the No 1 chart spot just as the Military Wives choir trumped Little Mix last year. Organisers expect to raise more than £200,000 for the charity.
An Early Day Motion by Wirrall South MP Alison McGovern appears to have persuaded the Prime Minister to waive VAT on sales of the recording to maximise the funds raised, having received support from MPs across the UK and across the political parties.
Simon Harper, Director of Operations TNT Express UK & Ireland, said: "TNT did something similar before when we waived the delivery costs for the Haiti earthquake charity single in 2010 so we wanted to play our small part in supporting this cause.
"Arvato - the distributors within the UK for Universal Music Group - is a major customer of TNT and we expect to deliver more than 250 consignments of the CDs to the high street music stores up and down the country."
Paul Jarman, Operations Manager, at Arvato Supply Chain Solutions, said: "We are trying to get the maximum proceeds going to this very good cause and TNT's support in distributing this single is greatly appreciated by us and the charity."
Sir Paul and his fellow pop luminaries recorded the single free of charge under the name The Justice Collective after being approached by Robbie Williams' former songwriting partner Guy Chambers.
The track recently had its first play in Liverpool in front of families of victims of the disaster, which saw 96 football fans killed in a horrific crush during the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield. It remains the worst stadium-related disaster in British history and one of the world's worst football disasters.
