Temporary Warehousing at London's Olympic Park Helps a Logistics Provider with Sustainability

In 2012, the Olympics come to London. TransformaSpace, a Ripley-based temporary buildings company, have been supporting global logistics provider D.B. Schenker during their work on the construction phase of the project.

D.B. Schenker are the world’s second largest logistics and freight company. Since construction on the Olympic Park began, they have delivered over two million tonnes worth of building materials to the venue sites. Valuable materials called for a secure, dry storage space for protection from thieves and from the elements.

TransformaSpace’s solution was a 900m² temporary warehouse. This state of the art facility sits in the middle of the Olympic Park, and provides not only secure storage, but also a place from which materials can be easily transported to the venues by rail.

D.B Schenker’s Commercial Manager, Mike Higgins, says: “TransformaSpace have provided us with a fantastic building which we have had for well over a year. They have been a truly professional, family run organisation to work with and supplied a great facility.”

In order to comply with the Olympic Delivery Authority’s sustainability policy, 50% of the construction materials must be delivered to their destinations via a sustainable route. D.B. Schenker are contributing to this by switching to rail for their deliveries, thereby reducing congestion on London’s busy streets.

Mike Higgins adds: “TransformaSpace have been extremely easy to deal with and erected our building in just over a week. I would definitely recommend TransformaSpace to any organisation who require temporary or permanent warehousing.”

TransformaSpace’s Managing Director, Steve Alldread, states: “Our company is delighted to be working so closely with D.B. Schenker. Our safe and secure facility has allowed them to store and manage products such as plasterboard, ceramic tiles and pre-built bathroom pods in a safe, secure, totally dry environment.”
