Press release -

UKBJJA in fundraising drive for Ty Hafan Welsh Children's Hospice

The United Kingdom Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association (UKBJJA) is delighted to announce that this year's nominated charity for the UKBJJA International Open Tournament is Tŷ Hafan, a leading Welsh children’s charity which provides comfort, care and support to children with life-limiting conditions, along with their families.

The UKBJJA International Open Tournament takes place on 6 October at the National Indoor Athletics Centre in Cardiff and all spectator fees will go to Tŷ Hafan.

The event will see up to 600 adlt and junior jiu jitsu competitors take to the mat at one of the biggest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu event to come to Wales. 20 of the world's top black belt athletes have already signed up and will be battling it out for the top prizes, among them Welsh phenomenon and double world champion, Ffion Davies, originally from Swansea.

The event is one of the most prestigious and lucrative BJJ tournaments in the UK, with a prize fund totalling £20k, including top prizes of £2000 for the winners of the black belt absolute divisions, equal prize money for male and female competitors and cash prizes for the winners of all blue, purple, brown and black belt divisions.

This competition follows on from the success of the first International Open held in Scotland in December last year that saw some of the world's best black belts fight it out against top UK athletes. It raised £882 for charity and was praised in the Scottish Parliament. The 2019 tournament will be significantly bigger and offers male and female, adult, masters, junior and juvenile divisions for all belt levels from white to black. It is a 3* ranked UKBJJA competition. Registration for athletes is open until 22 September via ukbjjainternationalopen.com

The UKBJJA invites everyone to come along on the day to to support the sport, watch some amazing matches and help us raise more for such a deserving charity.
