Liberal Democratic Party: Andrew Stunell: Lib Dems serious about tackling anti-Semitism

Liberal Democrat Communities Minister, Andrew Stunell has launched the Coalition Government’s response to the All Party Parliamentary Inquiry into anti-Semitism.

Mr Stunell published a report outlining the steps the Government is taking to tackle anti-Semitism, including £2m to fund tighter security measures in Jewish faith schools in the state sector, and a requirement for all police forces to record anti-Semitic hate crimes.

Commenting, Andrew Stunell said:

“It is unacceptable that such a high number of anti-Semitic incidents are still happening.

“The measures that I was able to announce today will increase protection for Jewish communities and ensure that we are properly recording the number and frequency of hate crimes to make it easier to determine what further measures need to be taken.

“As the Deputy Prime Minister recently said, it is outrageous that there should be a threat to the safety of Jewish schoolchildren in Britain in this day and age. We are working hard to achieve a fully integrated society in which everyone feels able to take part without fear of discrimination or attack.

“The message I’m delivering is clear. Liberal Democrats in Government are serious about tackling this problem and are fully committed to working with the Jewish community to tackle the scourge of anti-Semitism.”
