uShip, the online transport marketplace, today announced that Charles Myers, a 35-year veteran of the transport, freight and supply chain industry, has joined uShip as General Manager of Freight. Myers will oversee uShip’sbrokered loads and private network freight exchange services, both of which uShip recently introduced into its online spot market freight exchange.

Most recently, Myers was Director of International Business Development with England Logistics, a Top 10 3PL and wholly owned subsidiary of C.R. England. He spent six years (2002-08) as President of GetLoaded.com and Getloaded International. While at Getloaded, he served four years on the Board of Directors at theTransportation Intermediaries Association (TIA). He is currently on the Board of the International Refrigerated Transport Association (IRTA) and will continue in that position. Myers also worked 20 years in various roles with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), the Department of Defense's largest logistics combat support agency. He is a published writer in the logistics and supply chain field, including several articles and two books. For more on Myers’ background, visit his LinkedIn profile.

“We’ve spent the last six years building and refining a robust exchange for various kinds of freight focused mainly on the retail side of the shipping transaction,” said Matt Chasen, CEO and founder of uShip. “As we now expand into brokered freight and offering private network exchanges for brokers, Charles is perfectly suited to help us do this successfully. As a consultant to uShip over the past couple months, he’s already had a huge influence on the strategy, development and launch of our brokered services – and as GM of Freight at uShip, his experience and insights will continue to be invaluable.”

“What intrigues me about uShip is its unique transactional exchange and how it goes beyond the traditional load board model,” said Myers, who will remain based in Richmond, Va. “All brokered loads on uShip, whether in the more open exchange or through a private network, are posted with fixed-price offers with competitive carrier bidding and tendering taking place online. This is designed to drive down broker costs and provide carriers with a fair market value for their loads. Joining uShip at this time is exciting for me as it grows its brokered loads business and continues to expand globally.”
