KIMFT and Marlins discuss opportunity for collaboration

Marlins, V.Group’s training business, recently hosted guests from the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology (KIMFT) in their Glasgow, UK office to discuss potential collaboration, supporting KIMFT’s plans to establish a Maritime English centre for Asia.

The meeting was initiated following a meeting in May, where Marlins manager, Catherine Logie, as a consultant to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), delivered an IMO course for Maritime English instructors from six countries in the Asia region at KIMFT.

The institute wants to support and improve standards of training for Korean seafarers, including Maritime English training and testing. The letter of intent (LOI) suggests creating a Marlins Approved Test Centre at the KIMFT Youngdang-dong campus in Busan. In addition under the LOI, Marlins could provide additional services including cultural awareness training, materials and guidance on employers’ expectations regarding Maritime English standards.

The letter of intent was signed by V.Group’s David Barrie and KIMFT President, Byoung-Gyu Seo.
