275 Years Creating Homes - Black looks in the home

It’s here to stay: after making its debut at international trade fairs, the trend for black in interior design has now extended to the entire home. The bathroom and kitchen have discovered black, along with table settings and home accessories. And it's hardly surprising it’s been such a sensation – black flatters high-quality materials and emphasises shapes, surfaces and textures. Black is also turning out to be just as timeless and adaptable as white, its favourite adversary. Read on to find the best ideas for everyone who likes to “paint it black”.

The perfect backdrop for creative food productions

Black focuses attention on the essentials: and this is probably one of the reasons that make culinary creations served on Manufacture Rock look so sophisticated. The authentic slate surface in coloured-through premium porcelain creates a complete and very stylish black theme on the table: from underplates, dishes and bowls to espresso cups. The typical slate relief, created by rock layers that are millions of years old, is shown in its best light thanks to the uniform colour scheme. The coordinating Manufacture Rock glasses with cool black accents and black stems, and the linear matt black cutlery add the finishing touches to the look. Ideal with: matt black vases and scented candles from the Manufacture Collier collection or Manufacture Rock Home candleholders and hurricane lamps.

For a more subtle effect, choose La Boule in matt black: As a designer object and stackable crockery set in one, La Boule captivates thanks to its unique symbiosis of functionality and aesthetics.

Black in the bathroom: uncompromisingly minimalist

White has long been considered the classic colour for bathrooms: timeless, purist, elegant. We now know: dark colours look just as good in bathrooms. Villeroy & Boch’s new “Pure Black” shade makes black bathroom ceramic look even more intense. Pure Black is one of four trend colours available for the ceramic in the Antao designer collection, with its characteristic shape reflecting the organic outlines of a dewdrop. This gives the collection a minimalist note inspired by Japanese style trends. To complete the look, combine with matt black Antao taps and cabinet panels. But high-quality Antao wooden furniture with smooth or grooved panels is an excellent choice too.

In the Homage to Hommage collection launched to celebrate Villeroy & Boch’s 275th anniversary, Pure Black is the secret star. The new colour perfectly emphasises the traditional Victorian shapes of Hommage and treats them to a modern and trendy update.

Black looks in the kitchen

Interior designers have long since overcome their fear of black in the kitchen. Its rather gloomy image has been transformed, as black adds timeless elegance and stylish sophistication in the kitchen. Combining kitchen sinks in the ceramic colour of Ebony in tone-on-tone looks with black working surfaces or cabinet panels creates a consistent and harmonious effect. And if you prefer a more contrasting look, simply combine a ceramic sink in a light colour with a satiny kitchen tap in trendy Matt Black.
