Greater versatility in an authentic shale look – The successful collection The Rock is being expanded with cups and square plates

The theme of "nature and naturalness" is more of a growing trend than ever in the gastronomy scene: demand is high for ambitious cooking, made with high-quality ingredients, as local to the region and organic as possible. With The Rock, Villeroy & Boch presents the perfect tableware to complement this food trend. This is because the design of The Rock is inspired by shale: the characteristically rough stone structure, developed over millions of years, has been reinterpreted, the look and feel now authentically incorporated into Premium Porcelain using the latest production technology. With detailed authenticity – even the typical, lightly fractured chopping edge created during the handcrafting of traditional shingles has been copied as an exposed edge on the transition from the rim to the side of the coupe plate.

The collection plays with two types of structures: All elements of the coupe plate are decorated with a fine all-over shale relief that looks particularly realistic and emphasises the sleek design composition. On cups and saucers with a rim and well, the relief structure is used solely on the rim. All items are available in two colours: The deep black of the Black Shale, which is inspired by the natural stone colour of shale, and the extraordinary, white of the White Glacier allow you to visually elevate dishes and serve them with a high-contract wow factor.

Following the expansion of the 2019 range with breakfast and mocha cups made of glass, a bowl and a flat ceramic bowl, the new products for 2020 add more interesting porcelain pieces in both colours: the flat rectangular and square plates and platters, both available in two sizes, bring a contemporary and stylish aspect to the collection with their modern design. Whether used on their own or together with the existing round forms, they unlock the possibility of exciting table or buffet displays. Also available are completely new ceramic cups in three sizes and a small bowl, which are designed without a relief and thus incorporate additional decorative aspects into the collection.

All The Rock products have a solid-coloured biscuit porcelain and a special glaze. Although hard to differentiate from real shale, the crockery scores highly with the practical choice of ceramic as a material, is dishwasher-safe and suitable for microwaves.
