Nidec Announces Extension to its Commander S Range, Now Available up to 11 kW (15 hp)

  • The new Commander S V2 combines an industry-leading compact design with exceptional performance, delivering more power in less space, faster commissioning, and a lower total cost of ownership.
  • As the smallest micro drive on the market for 11 kW (15 hp) applications, it helps customers maximise panel space, simplify installation, making it a smarter, more efficient choice for modern machine design.

Newtown, Powys, UK, Oct 6th, 2026 - Nidec Drives, a business segment of Nidec, has expanded its Commander S V2 range of AC drives for induction motors with the introduction of a new frame size, extending the range up to 11 kW (15 hp). This latest enhancement reflects Nidec Drives' commitment to continuous improvement, enabling customers to standardise ¥on a single Commander S V2 platform across the full power range. The extended offering provides greater application flexibility while maintaining the simplicity, reliability and performance that have made Commander S a trusted choice worldwide.

"At Nidec Drives, we focus on creating practical solutions that help customers improve performance while reducing complexity," said Laurent Babaud, President, Nidec Drives. "The expansion of Commander S reflects that commitment. Customers can now access higher power ratings while benefiting from the same ease of installation, reliability, and efficiency they trust today. It is another example of how we engineer solutions to solve operational challenges and deliver long-term value."

Commander S V2 provides a solution for simple applications that require plug-and-play control convenience straight from the box. It is easy to install, easy to use, reliable and cost-effective. Typical applications that are a particularly good fit for Commander S V2 include fans, pumps, compressors, conveyors and mixers.

"Customers consistently tell us they want greater capability without additional complexity," said Roxana Suteu, Product Manager, Nidec Drives. "By extending Commander S to 11 kW, we're enabling users to standardise on a single platform across more applications while benefiting from one of the smallest drive footprints available in this power range. The result is a solution that saves space, simplifies commissioning, and helps reduce installation and lifecycle costs."

A key differentiator of Commander S V2, is its integrated Marshal app, included as a standard feature at no additional cost. The app transforms the way users interact with the drive, enabling commission, monitoring, diagnostics and technical support directly from their smartphones.

Marshal, powered by NFC technology, acts as a drive expert in the field, enabling power on/off set-up in as little as 60 seconds, fast cloning, and real-time diagnostics. With intuitive, step-by-step guidance through the FastStart menu, users can quickly resolve issues and get systems up and running with minimal effort. Available on Android and iOS, it simplifies commissioning to just four key settings, making set-up faster, easier, and more reliable.

Commander S V2 is designed for environments where space and reliability matter most. Its robust click-on/off DIN rail mounting, compact footprint, and side-by-side installation capabilities make it ideal for space-constrained applications. Laser-marked terminals and angled access points simplify wiring and installation, saving time on the panel build. Built for durability, Commander S V2 features conformal coating to protect against moisture, dust, and corrosion, ensuring long-term performance, backed by a free 5-year warranty. Built-in features such as intelligent fan control, Modbus RTU, and an integrated C1 EMC filter help reduce system cost while maintaining performance.

This expansion to Commander S V2 reflects Nidec's broader commitment to helping customers improve efficiency and productivity through practical innovation. By combining engineering excellence, customer collaboration, and globally scaled expertise, Nidec delivers motor control solutions that support the growing demands of industrial automation and electrification worldwide.
