NIDEC GPM is announcing a complete family of electric dry runner water pumps

The demand for electric water pumps, especially for application in hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in-hybrids and electric vehicles, is growing quickly. They can contribute to CO2 reduction within advanced thermal management systems.

So far, electric wet runner water pumps with canned motors have been the predominant technology within the automotive industry. NGPM identified a big improvement potential regarding robustness against blocking, outer size and efficiency. For that reason, a new family of dry runner water pumps without canned motors is being developed.

The new pump family is divided into three types, small auxiliary (10W - 70W), large auxiliary (80W - 280W) and main pumps (300W - 600W with 12V) up to 2.4kW with 48V.

This innovation is a synergy project within the NIDEC Business Unit Automotive Motor & Electronic Control (AMEC). It combines the cutting edge know how for BLDC motor technology of NIDEC Motors & Actuators with NIDEC GPM`s market expertise for mechanical water pumps.
