Opening up dentistry with open architecture software

In an industry that is evolving and experiencing innovation as quickly as dentistry is, it’s vital that new technologies are compatible and synergistic to maintain and improve effective workflow and patient care.

If new dental equipment can’t communicate digitally with current dental equipment then it can’t be easily connected to a network to process valuable data. This is “closed software architecture” and it prevents a user from taking advantage of new features for improving workflow, expansion of practice services and improved patient safety. Unfortunately, numerous dental equipment manufacturers operate this way (closed software architecture) only allowing their proprietary equipment to transfer/process information digitally.

Alternatively, open architecture software assures integration with dental equipment at a practice. The "open" part means one software for any standard (non-proprietary) file type (DICOM; JPG; TIf; OBJ; STL etc.) can be utilized by the same imaging equipment manufacturer and also utilized by any 3rd-party source. Planmeca Romexis® open architecture software has an easy-to-use interface and can be used for most patient images from X-rays to CAD/CAM and images can be stored in a convenient centralized database. Planmeca Romexis® open architecture software is also the key to upgrading/expanding the capabilities of Planmeca ProMax® imaging systems. Ultimately, Planmeca Romexis® optimizes workflow and cost efficiency for practices, clinicians, dental universities, DSOs and government facilities.

The variety of digital equipment and software available to dentists is increasing significantly every year. Dentists are working to incorporate digital technology into their practices to offer detailed treatment plans and streamline workflow. Recognizing this, Planmeca will continue to expand its lead in the industry with new technical and digital innovations.
