Shazam Announces BBC’s Daniel Danker as New Chief Product Officer

London – 25 March 2013 - Shazam®, the world’s leading media engagement company, today announced that Daniel Danker will be joining the company as Chief Product Officer.  In this newly created position, Danker will be responsible for leading the product expansion of the Shazam service which is used by more than 300 million people globally.

Danker joins Shazam from the BBC, where he has served as General Manager of Programmes and On Demand since 2010.  He has been responsible for strategy and delivery of the BBC’s iPlayer, iPlayer Radio, and Red Button products. Danker also helped deliver the technology that powered the BBC’s online media experience for the London 2012 Olympics. Danker’s previous experience includes helping develop Mediaroom, Microsoft’s internet-connected TV platform, as well as Microsoft’s Xbox Music platform.

The Shazam for TV™ service was launched in 2011 in the United States for advertising and select television programmes and has since expanded to include all programming on 160 channels.  In the last year, Shazam for TV advertising has launched the UK, Western Europe and Asia.  Shazam’s television service has been integrated into hundreds of ad campaigns since launch, including those for A-list global brands such as Pepsi, Toyota, Barclays, Sony Entertainment and many more.  Additionally, millions of people have used Shazam as a companion app while watching major events such as the GRAMMY® Awards, Super Bowl, and the Olympic Games, as well as popular programs such as “American Idol” and “Girls”.

In addition to working on Shazam for TV, Danker will be responsible for app development for phones, tablets and other devices across all major platforms, as well as working with major social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
