Discovery raises R400 000 for Teddy Bear Clinic at the 94.7 Cycle Challenge

Together with Discovery, Daryl Impey and Geraint Thomas successfully raised R400 000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children at the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge on Sunday 17 November. Discovery Insure CEO, Anton Ossip and a team of 146 riders cycled in the Discovery Daryl Impey Peloton for a great cause to help Teddy Bear Clinic further its work in society by protecting and rehabilitating abused children.

“Discovery is proud to be associated with the Teddy Bear Clinic in an effort to raise much needed funds for the organisation. At Discovery we believe that the success of our organisation is underpinned by that of the society at large. This initiative was testament to Discovery’s ambition to impact positively on society, and to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” says Discovery Insure CEO, Anton Ossip.

Professional cyclist Daryl Impey says, “It was exciting and fun to see so many people pledging their support for the Teddy Bear Clinic through their participation in the Discovery Daryl Impey Peloton. Together we managed to raise funds for the Teddy Bear Clinic that takes care of vulnerable children in our society.”

“When Daryl agreed to raise funds for the Teddy Bear Clinic, of which I am a patron, we expected to make R100 000 but when Discovery came on board, the whole game changed. Thanks to their incredible support and the enthusiasm of the riders who responded to our appeal, we were able to quadruple our target. We are still overwhelmed by this achievement, which could never have been done without Discovery's backing and we thank them profusely. The Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge was fabulous, and while riding as a group was rather like herding cats, I know that all the riders enjoyed the occasion, particularly because they were all aware that it was for a fabulous cause, says David O’Sullivan radio presenter for Talk Radio 702 and 567 Cape Talk”

Over 31 000 riders took part in this challenge yesterday. Will Smit took the number one spot completing the race in two hours eight minutes and 42 seconds. Ashleigh Moolman won the women’s category of the race. For the full results table, view the website at
