Successful IT/biotechnology-system becomes even more advanced

The Bioclipse project at Uppsala University has won several international awards for its advanced IT-system for research and education in biotechnology. A brand new version of Bioclipse has now been released, with many new features that will make it even easier to adapt to the needs of the researchers.

" Bioclipse 2.0 a completely reworked version, equipped with many new features that will be appreciated by the research community," says project manager Ola Spjuth, a Ph.D. student in Professor Jarl Wikberg's research group at the department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences.

The system consists of a large number of components and is easy to extend, which means that it can be set up according to different demands. It is, for example, as easy to configure for general chemistry education as it is for a system that is suitable for drug development. Bioclipse is open-source and free to use.

"This way we open the door for many different types of users to take advantage of the new Internet-based research infrastructure that is currently evolving, commonly referred to as eScience. This opens up new possibilities to perform large-scale scientific research with global collaborations utilizing Internet as the forum", says Ola Spjuth.
