The story of Mynewsdesk...helping brands & journalists

More than 10 years ago, Mynewsdesk was founded out of a mission to put relations back into PR. Gathering their experiences in journalism, communications and technology, our three founders - Peter, David and Kristofer, noticed that the connection between brands and influencers (such as journalists and bloggers) was terrible.

With the intention of helping people and brands to share their ideas, they looked into how they can make it easier for businesses to get their stories out, and how journalists can receive relevant stories, in the midst of all the noise.

At a time where advertising dollars were king and public relations were starting to be social and digital, how could companies of all sizes, even the small ones, tell their stories on the same terms as big companies? How could one find out which journalist or blogger to reach out to, instead of mass-spamming media lists?

Here were some of the problems that communicators often faced:

  • Having to send press releases, factsheets and high-resolution images in separate steps
  • Spending much time & resource to produce multiple DVD/CD ROMs for distributing assets to media & stakeholders
  • Neglecting to publishing stories and releases on company website or doing that too late, hence missing on opportunities
  • Managing and updating multiple contact lists for influencers / stakeholders in different excel sheets
  • Collaboration across the team or with their agency was something like: Back & forth exchange of contact lists or press releases saved as "version 4.5", "v10 as at 12 Sep 2016", "v3.2 as at 12 Sep 2015 11:30am by Annie", and so on.
  • Measuring the impact of their communications effort
  • Engagement with the most important audiences
  • Staying ahead in the ever-changing landscape, with the rapid emergence of new channels, tools and measurement indicators

Basically, using way too much time on administrative tasks that could be better spent for strategic work and building stakeholder relations.

...And some frustrations of journalists & bloggers:

  • Being sent from email, to external download sites, to the next email and to the next.
  • Ready to download High-resolution images and videos via yousendit, dropbox or wetransfer, only to disappointed by an expired link or a prompt to create an account
  • Receiving an interesting press release but can't get the full picture because there's no supporting information. And they can't be found on the company's corporate website either.
  • Lack of high quality images & videos which they can republish
  • Being spammed all the time by stories of irrelevant topics to their beat

Journalists racing against time to meet deadlines need easy access to relevant information. Period.

In 2003, the all-in-one SaaS platform launched in Stockholm. Businesses in Sweden caught on, and eventually, the rest of the Nordics, and Europe. Today, more than 70,000 communicators and 5000 brands globally are using Mynewsdesk in their daily PR work to get maximum impact with minimum administrative effort.

From 3 pioneers, Mynewsdesk grew to become a team of 200 consultants, web developers and customer support agents - all passionate to drive progress in how public relations is done.

We continue to invest efforts in developing ways to help communicators ride the ongoing shift in the media, PR & communications industry. We believe that every company has a good story to tell and we strive to help brands of all sizes get their stories across so that they can  release the full power of their stories, to inspire and to spark change.
